Since I didn't join the group until July, I chose 25 books for my 2018 goal.

I think I'm going to set my 2018 reading goal at 20. I just started & I think it's a realistic goal that I can reach :)

Me too. I set mine at 20 because I'm starting so late. Good luck :)

I read an article recently warning that these reading challenges can have a negative impact. In trying to read a large number of books, we may tend to skim or read with less focus, or allow ourselves less time to reflect on what we read. One obvious difference here, of course, is that many of us are reviewing what we read and that encourages deeper focus on what we read. It also encourages reflection: what is the overall theme of this book, what should readers know about the characters, how do I let them know what excited me about the book without giving too much away?

All that being said, I've set a challenge of 50 books a year (essentially a book a week). I think I just short made last year and have already passed it this year. Having a goal provides a sense of accomplishment as I work steadily towards it. I admit to searching for a few shorter "books" the year I didn't think I'd make it, which sort of defeats the purpose. But I generally fit in a few heavier tomes, that require more effort to read - even the need to re-read passages to understand them. I'll probably keep the 50-book goal, even though it seems less of a challenge now that my "kids" are off to college and I have so much more time to read.

I'm going for 100 books this year, mainly because I have a vacation planned and sitting poolside reading is on the list of things to do! I also really enjoy doing the reviews, because it introduces me to books and genres that I would not normally read.

I have a goal of reading at least 25 books this year. Due to my tight schedule, I don't think I can exceed that.

I have been aiming for 40, but lowered it to 30 because I have been having issues finding reading time for myself. I'm only about halfway there so far!!

Seeing as most of the year is gone already I think I’ll aim for 6 books.

I think since this is my first time with this site and the year is nearly up, I will make a challenge for about 25 books.

I've been ill, all year. I've lost motivation to read and it's so out of character. 2019 will be the year I catch my book bug again

It's only one weeks to the end of 2018, but not too late to set a target of 2 books! Perhaps next year I may be able to set a goal that I can strive to successfully achieve by the end of it!
