Nice comparison! and describing him as a trumpet blower certainly makes sense and is fitting for his disclaimer.

I think that the author tries to show that every person should find his own revelations. Maybe people need someone to urge them to make a certain revelation; however, no one can reveal something instead of you.
I like your interpretation here. Like he wants to show others the information and power he's found, but he can't force others to follow. Nor is he looking to lead a revolution.
I would go with the one that seems to present a role of providing an opportunity for people to find their own revelation. There are some instances where such 'contradictions' occurred too. For example, when the author states that he saw no need for mentors or teachers then goes to state that he had no other mentor apart from a spiritual one.

I'm a parent and I would like to throw a parent child analogy here. I show my children the various options they have in life ...like swimming lessons, music lessons, basketball, and so on so forth. But they get to pick what resonates with them the most. So does the author ...this is my life he says, you can take what you want and leave what you want. I present but can't reveal your truth. Hence the question ...what's your role?
His role was to find the essence of Jesus' teaching and to give it back to humanity. It appears that he undertook the role, but he wants people to discover this for themselves too.

He is saying that he is a revealer whose role is to find the true meaning of God's teachings and his own revelations, then, provide the opportunity for others to find their own calling or revelations through his experience or writing.
I was confused with regards to the contradiction in that sentence at first as well. It makes more sense to me now having read the book and taking a look back at it once again. I feel like the meaning is similar to saying, "I am not God, but I am a messenger here to do my part to help achieve the overall purpose".
