ARA Review by Eduardo Esqueda of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

"I love you" those words recorded towards the end of the book reached something deep from within me. Yet, I believe that the only reason they did manage to reach me profoundly was because it worked in conjunction with the rest of this book.

One of the most touching books I have read this year, however it's quality is beyond emotional, it is also rational and cohesive. As the book itself states, you can be either be completely devoted to your religion or a straight up atheist and find something valuable here. As a person who has a lot of empathy and sometimes too much for my own good, this book also made me realize that while I am understanding of others, I am usually too hard on myself. "Love the person you see in the mirror" thanks to this book I'm going to do "not try" and be better with myself, and remove any room for potential failure.

This struggle we share as humans really is beautiful when you break it down the way Hughes did in this title. More often than not, we as humans see only the "clothes" of the ones around us, I appreciate how the writer proposes the idea that such elements that are simply visual or physical such as our skin colour, our height, face (wether good looking or ugly) are merely exterior traits that don't define the "real you". I can't recommend this book enough, I already have talked about it with friends and family as I hug them each time as if it were the last time, also as this book suggest.

After reading the book through and through I can't but help to share the sentiment Hughes expresses to the reader "I love you", and this precisely how we should approach each other, with love in order to keep united in the beautiful struggle we know as "existing".

Definitely a 5 out of 5 star book for me, despite being a person who is more inclined to read, historical fiction. Would certainly read again if I feel I'm straying far from this book's principles.
