ARA Review by yachtsee of Free Fish Friday

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

Free Fish Friday
This book was written by someone who knew about boating and fishing because the details were accurate. I’ve been around marinas, boats, and fishing all my adult life and our family went fishing on our boat as often as we could. I’d always wanted to go fishing in the Florida keys but never made it out there, so this was a pleasure to read. The story is so well written I could almost feel the boat swaying under my feet, the rod in my hands, and the sound of the reel.

The story is fast-paced and full of quirky, well-developed characters. Slacker Mills, the protagonist, is a flawed but likable character. All he wants is to fish all day, every day, and he's really good at it, winning many trophies. He’s a likable guy with friends and one friend that owns a fishing boat, Jerry Porter. It’s the story of the two men, one lost in the world of fishing, and the other lost in the world without his soulmate.

The mystery begins one day when a body is found floating in the bay. Friendships are tested when anger, jealousy, betrayal, and lack of respect tear a community apart. Slacker finds the whole town turning on him when he’s suspected of murder.

There’s no violence and few cuss words. Sometimes the circumstances are humorous but there are also many lessons about life, morality, and the consequences of life’s choices. Also lessons on fishing, which I enjoyed very much. The ending isn't what you'd expect.

It was a fast read and only took me about 5 hrs to read the whole book. I couldn’t put it down and look forward to reading the second book in the series.

The cover isn’t great, but the story is brilliant. It would appeal to anyone who loves fishing and even those that don’t, because it’s a great story.

Readers of the Miami Jones series by AJ Stewart may also enjoy this book.

I rate this 5 stars out of 5 because it’s well written and so fun to read.
