ARA Review by MartinKearnsAuthor of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In it Together is written work filled with philosophical edicts organized together to benefit the reader and become applicable for a more healthful existence. This small tomb details a philosophy, laid out in manageable parts, to guide the reader to understanding that the material existence is not one of fulfillment, but focusing on one’s journey and embracing the truth is.

Using these signposts, people may easily find themselves avoiding pitfalls that lead to various forms of addiction and allay themselves a commercially or desire driven existence to find a more pronounced truth within and without.

Books falling into the mindfulness category can seem like a dime a dozen, but Hughes does a masterful job of breaking down his philosophy into digestible portions. Wielding philosophy spanning ages of human experience, Hughes has applied many minds into one core concept.

Management of the self and achieving freedom from self-discipline. It seems as though these are contradictory disciplines, but through keeping up with one’s self, you may stay ahead and not become encumbered by the many bad habits that will weigh you down. Whether it is acceptance of human behaviors, understanding through analysis, recognizing one’s autonomy from the pains and joys of others to ultimately find your inner sanctum.

In the end, Hughes is highlighting that we are all on a solitary journey in parallel with countless others through this existence of ours and, at the whims and by the design of the universe, we will encounter adversity. It is how we may deal with this adversity that is important and often confusing to us. In it Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All lifts the fog and gives the reader a chance to make sense of our existence.
