ARA Review by Kimberley Echeverria of The Savage Surrogate

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In the beginning chapters of the book, each character had her/his own problem to solve which made reading somewhat confusing. As the book progressed, the reader looked forward to following each character and seeing how he/she solved each problem.

The addition of a talented dog added to the mystery and intrigue, but the character of the dog handler, did not add interest to the story line. This character, although a Navy Seal, could have been eliminated with the character, Fran handling the dog and solving the problem.

Another interesting character was Mr. Who with whom one of the main characters, Fran had interacted with before. The author portrayed this character as having changed his appearance to the point where the main character would not recognize him. No description was offered as to how he had changed from his previous appearance so that no one recognized him and he could go anywhere without risk. More descriptions would have enhanced the characters in this book.

As the story unfolded, and the problems were solved, one at a time, the book created curiosity in the reader and she wanted to read the book to see if the next problem was going to be solved. The main problem was surrogacy of a criminal nature. The author successfully wrote about this subject making it interesting, but not gruesome.

I would give this book a rating of 4 out of 5. It kept the reader interested and had a great deal of intrigue.
