ARA Review by Chaotic_Reading of The Hermit Gryphon

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

The following is a review for the book, The Hermit Gryphon: The Redemption of Talona.

Taking place 5 years after the events in “The Gryphon,” Tal has basically become a hermit because of her nest arrest. At her family’s request, she travels to the Forest Nesting Site to begin her journey in healing, righting past wrongs, and discovering who she is now that her reign of terror is over. But all of this is just the beginning because her new life takes a drastic turn when another power craving would-be ruler comes to try and take over.

I didn’t realize this was the second book in the series when I chose to read it. That being said, without knowing the events of the first book, the author did a decent job on this book. I was a bit confused (not taking points off for that in this case) but the author gave enough tidbits of backstory for me to make enough of a connection to the events of the first book that by the end of the book, I felt comfortable without having the full knowledge of the first book.

The writing of the book is a little simple, there aren’t a lot of large words, but that is fine. I felt there was more telling than showing within the details of the book, but some authors just write that way. The book has a solid story, but could possibly do with a little bit of revision. Besides some spelling errors, there were points of the story that felt rushed or overshadowed by other events taking place. The ending specifically felt rushed to me.

Despite all of that, I felt the story had a great message. The overall meaning that love and peace win is a valid and solid foundation. Tal’s journey from hatred and self loathing to acceptance and peace within herself is a strong point within the novel.

Overall, the story is a little choppy, but a good story on redemption of the soul, as well as owning up to one’s past mistakes and misgivings. I would give this book a 3 out of 5 for some of the aforementioned blemishes, but a book people should read, nonetheless. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
