ARA Review by MuniraAmar of Cast Into Twilight

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

Cast Into Twilight by Keller Marie is a unique and emotional story that mixes real life with fantasy in a surprising way. It starts with Sammy, a young man who works as a bike delivery driver and lives with his best friend, Ashli. He’s dealing with exhaustion, heartbreak, and the pressure of everyday life. At first, the story feels like a slice-of-life drama, but strange things begin to happen, especially with Sammy’s reflection in the mirror. As these moments grow darker and more disturbing, Sammy is pulled into another world that is mysterious and dangerous.

The second part of the book introduces a new character named Rourke, who lives in a dark and ruined land filled with strange creatures and magic. This part of the story feels more like a fantasy adventure. At first, it’s not clear how the two storylines are connected, but as the book goes on, readers begin to understand how Sammy and Rourke’s lives are linked. Both characters are trying to survive in their own worlds, and both are looking for hope, connection, and purpose.

The emotional depth of the story is one of its strongest parts. Sammy especially feels like a real person, and readers will relate to his loneliness, stress, and desire to be understood. The switch from real-life drama to fantasy adventure might be a little confusing or unexpected for some readers, and parts of the book, especially in Rourke’s world, slow down because of heavy descriptions and world-building. Still, the story is full of heart, imagination, and surprising turns.

I give Cast Into Twilight a rating of 4 out of 5. I didn’t give it a 5 because the sudden change in tone and pacing between the two halves of the book felt uneven at times, and it took a while for the connection between Sammy and Rourke to become clear. However, I didn’t give it a 3 because the characters were well-developed, the writing was strong, and the emotional core of the story was powerful and original.
