ARA Review by Sylvester Oyeka of The Biblical Clock

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

“The Biblical Clock” Reviewed by Sylvester Oyeka
The book, “The Biblical Clock” by Daniel Friedmann and Dania Shieldon is a well reflected book that attempts to show similarities between the biblical age of the Universe and the scientific age from Evolution theory. The authors adopt a tactical way to establish a formula, which when utilized clears the disagreement that had existed between the bible and science. The authors in an attempt to clarify their points and to create a platform for better assimilation of the ideas shared by the bible and science employ a sagacious method; thereby bringing reconciliation between the two fields; Science and Bible.

There had always been a dichotomy perceived by scholars when biblical age and scientific age are viewed in parallel to each other. This dichotomy had remained a perennial problem leading to frustration in researchers’ exploration into the age of the universe. Some get frustrated leaving their researches in an inconclusive state. The authors of the book, “The Biblical Clock “remain consistent in their arguments as they try to reconcile the Bible and science; an age- long problem.

The book is mathematical; the authors in their ingenuity establish a formula which when utilized clears the disagreement between the Bible and Science as the two fields would be reconciled and discrepancy between the fields as regards age of the universe would be cleared and reconciled. The book is scientific as the authors use convincing scientific ideas to project their arguments, using scientific formulae to buttress their points. The book is theological as the authors remain in the circle of religion and point at God as the author of the universe, thereby accrediting the universe to a primary cause as posited by Aristotle the “First Cause” and the “unmoved mover”.

The authors employ a historic method, as they did not jump into their analysis of the universe without reflecting backwardly. The author acknowledged historians who had done intellectual exploration on the age of the Universe; this provides the authors with a platform and a takeoff point in their systematic reconciliation between the Bible and Science. The authors adopt archeological method in each chapter. In each chapter, one finds historical materials that would enable one to make a logical assessment on the age of the universe. The authors direct their readers to the time of Aristotle where he described the universe as eternal and ageless, which gingered scientists and philosophers to be more inquisitive on the age of the universe. The Greeks and Romans after Aristotle established a desirable date for the beginning of the universe around 40,000 BCE.

The book is Biblical; the authors exhume historical accounts of the Bible situating them to the contemporary eras in order to project the authenticity of the Bible as a material that provides evidence in research. Furthermore, the authors in their ingenuity brought more enlightenment to perennial problem that has caused devastating effects on researchers who had attempted to explore into the age of the universe but become frustrated because of discrepancy shared between bible and science from a layman’s point of view.

The book, “The Biblical Clock” is therefore recommended to scientific researchers in order for them to realize that the Bible is not in conflict with science neither is science in conflict with Bible but the two are different ways of discovering the truth. I therefore grade this book, “The Biblical Clock” 4 out of 5.
