ARA Review by Thomas Zman of E M P Honeymoon

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

E M P Honeymoon

What Dorothy May Mercer has created here is a light-hearted adventure combining the elements of a newlywed couple (who aren’t all that romantically inclined having just been married) and the fast-paced “save the country,” theme as Americans verse the evils of a tyrannical dictator.

While spending their honeymoon in Honduras, Kelly, and Tom stumble upon a plot by a terrorist third-world country to launch a weapon of mass destruction at the United States. Tom, a sergeant in the Nevada police force, is quickly joined by two top notch female agents when it is learned that Kelly, the daughter of a high-ranking official, just may be in trouble.

Meanwhile a CIA agent, Steve, is keeping tabs on a small cell of terrorists--the lead of which stumbles along near comically in her attempts at blending in--lurking in the Caribbean resort from which they are to implement their attack on the United States. Yet this was only half the evil plan, for controlling their entire operation is the evil dictator, overseeing the entire operation from his homeland . . .

The cast is typical for a plot like this; the characters interchangeable with any in the trendy genre. Its transparent plotline and character arcs left little to the imagination as it had all been done already thousands of times. In addition to this, nearing its conclusion, I found the storyline thinning as the author pressed ahead with the action and ultimate climax, seeming to leave behind pertinent details as to plausibility when it came to such a terrorist endeavor.

I did, however, find the novel to be quite entertaining--yet deserving of only 4 out of 5 stars. The novel, baring its few short-comings, was definitely the type of something that takes you away for several hours, planting you firmly in the exciting world of “could something like this really happen?”
