ARA Review by Dina Hussien 1 of Free Fish Friday

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

Free Fish Friday
Lee Stone
review 5 out 5

Lee Stone has written a mystery set in Key West with a memorable and fun group of characters. If you receive any vicarious pleasure reading about the intriguing life of Key West, you will enjoy this book.

Slacker Mills, the central character, did not have a childhood that was all that great, however it helped him discover early the one thing that he loved and excelled at the most, fishing. He left home and high school for Florida, pursued his love for fishing and became well-known for being one of the best in the world. Slacker is the perfect person to take you for a ride through Key West with this great group of characters. He arrives in Key West looking for a cold beer, a warm female and a fresh start.

Slacker’s best friend, Jerry Porter dies early in the story and Slacker is a prime suspect for his murder. An idyllic existence is suddenly turned upside down and Slacker starts experiencing real life for the first time. He is known for being one of the world’s top fisherman which is a huge deal in Key West (big fishing town) and is used to receiving all of the accolades that go with that reputation.

Jerry Porter has befriended and helped many over the years and there is no shortage of people sorry and angry that he has been killed. All of a sudden in many eyes Slacker has gone from hero to villain.

Much of the story takes place at the Rusty Hook, a local tavern and what was once Slacker’s refuge is no longer his safe harbor. All of this takes a huge toll on a guy that only a short time before was only concerned about fishing, getting laid and getting a cold beer. He is jolted into realizing how much certain relationships meant to him.

Lee Stone puts you into the head of each of these characters, Jordan (the lesbian who Slacker lusts over), Devan (Jordan’s sister who lusts over Slacker), Rusty Hook (the owner of the Rusty Hook who turns against Slacker) and many others.

You, the reader become a friend of Slacker’s early on and really want him to be all right and get out of this mess. The story does not have an obvious ending, has many twists and turns and is an enjoyable read.
