ARA Review by LaurenBGrossman of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

My favorite line from this inspirational book is, "There is great power in peacefulness and acceptance, because there is a great waste in restlessness, resentment, and unforgiveness." That prose really resonated with me, as my husband and I enter a new chapter in our lives... retirement.

Hughes teaches us acceptance of others and ourselves, and how to remain peaceful in a world rampant with hate, violence, and divisiveness.

Written regarding ALL aspects of living, the lessons truly hit home and made me stop and consider the changes needed in my own life. I have no doubt that I will be going back to reread certain chapters for change. In fact, I may need to return to this twice, maybe even three times, to fully appreciate what Hughes has imparted.

The writing was concise and the formatting made for easy reading. There were times that some of the language was "over my head", but the root and gist of the narrative was there, and hit home.

I am a big a big believer in life-long learning and broadening your mind, which Hughes encourages the reader to do.

There is a great need for books that inspire us and calm us during these days of chaos, as this one continually does for me.
