ARA Review by Maryannwrites-15 of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In it Together is a book to read in sections, then stop to absorb the messages about love and life and how we are all connected. I've always believed in that connectivity, and agree with the author that our biggest problem in society is how we are drifting apart. I also agree with the author about the power of love to help fix the problems we face.

We just can't give up on love, then we might as well give up entirely. Finding common ground and the core of our humanity is a good first step toward closing the gap that divides us as people and nations.

I like that the book isn't a political treatise, and that the author doesn't tell the reader what to do, rather suggests and invites:

To put aside racism, sexism, and all the other "isms" that are dark stains on society.

To risk loving more and hating less.

The philosophy is one I buy into completely and it was nice to see the author use the work of writer Voltarine de Cleyre to support his views. She was one of the first philosophers I read who espoused the notions of love and freedom as antidotes to social problems.

The book starts out slowly, with too much introduction that tends to repeat what the author is going to present, much like one starts an academic paper, and for that reason, I only give it 4 out of 5 . But once the reader gets past that, the other chapters read well. I particularly liked the one titled How to Free Your Spirit and Manifest Your Love.
