ARA Review by VictoriaSteinsoy of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In it together: the struggle that unites us all discusses the many challenging aspects of being human. How things like behavior patterns, negative thoughts and poor priorities are something we alle struggle with, and how through self-love and discipline, we can improve. The authors uses ideas and presents some quotes from famous philosopher such as Descartes and the more esoteric Alan Watts, but mostly his personal take on the matter.

He presents the idea of how our experience of the world is ultimately based upon our personal perceptions, attitudes and abilities to cultivate love and compassion and also discusses the concept of “the law of one” – the idea that ultimately everything (including humans!) are ultimately one, and how knowing this can provide a broader understanding of life.

When I picked up this book I did not know how deep it would go and what kind of angle it would take with regards to spiritual awareness. I’ve read many similar books before and was curious if it would bring something new. Sadly, I can’t say I was “mind-blown” by anything presented here. Having dived very deeply into self-development, self-love and spirituality, these are concepts and ideas I’m already familiar with. With that said, I believe this book summarized a lot of very important truths that people should take to heart, and that it can be a very useful read for someone who’s “less read” in the esoteric sphere.

There is currently too little awareness around the balance between loving ourselves and also being disciplined, and the author has a beautiful take on this, and many practical ways for people to bring more happiness into their lives. All in all, this was not a read that presented enough "revelations" for me personally (and I found the writing a little repetitive in some sections) but I really love the message and find that it can be an eye-opening book for a lot of people.

Finally, I've decided to rate the book 4/5. The content was really good, but I can't personally give it a 5 seeing that a lot of the ideas were "borrowed" and things I've both read and discussed before. It's not a 3 however, as I believe the truths presented in this book should absolutely be known by the human species if we are ever to evolve. All in all; this is an important book.
