ARA Review by Rose+Anne Harrison1 of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

It is always a relief to come across a writer who has researched his subject well. Usually, he quotes many serious writers, which has the effect of raising his profile to the level of a serious thinker. More so, to discover a writer who displays such convicted beliefs and faith in ideas that focus on love without highlighting his own beliefs as being the seminal way of thinking. There is a pleasing humility in that.

This author clearly has a passion to unify us all. I believe he wishes to solidify his ideas by using common concepts that religion deals with regularly such as love, unity and other transcendant concepts.

It is a clever tool and raises the profile of his area of expertise without reference to one diety or another. It is helpful to a Christian reader like myself not to be bombarded with dogma, of which there is enough in the world. How much of it is truly empty is anyone's guess but this is not his main focus. Therefore, his aim to exclude no one is a successful one. Without replacing other religions, the writer wants to gather us all under one idea without bowing to elitism.

Interesting is the chapter on the ego, his suggestions on how to deal with possessiveness and temptation. Additionally, the reality of true love seem familiar yet are presented with alternate facets and terminology.

I admire his technical ability to sustain the narrative through out the book. I wasn't made aware of errors or grammatical mistakes but perhaps I felt too intrigued by his writing. It wasn't my usual reading taste and had I not come across it online, I might never have experienced it at all. It is, however, a useful text for philisophical students to study if they wished to research an alternative text.

I found his writing unoffensive and complex. Too complex to read without a lot of contemplation and thought. Not for light reading at all. Yet, a worthy read whether one agrees with him or not.

Rather we write of love and peace and how to achieve their dizzy heights than a less worthy topic, which is why I gave him 4 out of 5.
