ARA Review by Widow40 of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

4 out of 5

The book, In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All, offers the reader an insightful explanation of human nature. It is especially noteworthy how the first chapter gives thought-provoking reasons for our willingness or our unwillingness to end the suffering of others. Somewhere along the lines most of us lose our true identity while growing up, and seem to struggle with our most deepest insecurities even in adulthood. As a result, we become divided in our thoughts and actions, and lose our ability to see the bigger picture.

The author continues his thoughts about the importance of self-awareness and the key to finding contentment and inner peace. There's a strong suggestion to the reader to make personal choices without second-guessing whether or not they are right or wrong. Several chapters of the book do a good job explaining the benefit of living a lifestyle beyond tangible attributes, while relieving ourselves of the burden of self-deception, pursuing endless goals to feel worthy, and putting ourselves under unreasonable expectations.

I gave this book a 4 out of 5, because my personal faith conflicts with certain points made and also because I would've appreciated a more condensed explanation of the author's feelings on human nature. I didn't find anything I read in the book to be confusing but a little too long-winded in parts for my personal taste.

The message that stands out the most for me is the writer's plea for humankind to stop wasting precious time improving who we are as individuals and dealing with our present circumstances logically. It's obvious that how we view and treat ourselves will affect how we view and treat others. Therefore, we must practice love and forgiveness in order to avoid the consequences of selfishness and hatred that are so rampant in our world today.
