ARA Review by Justin_cook of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

"In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All" is a book about realizing the uplifting and unifying power of love, of true connection we all have to each other. Hughes gives us the chance to rebrand and rebuild ourselves and harnesses the power of the teacher and student relationships in life to build up a community to promote success, but I would say it's more than that. There is a sense of personal connection to a journey that got us all here, a difficult journey in life where you constantly find and fight yourself while trying to draw synergy.

I taught in the post-secondary scene at numerous universities and saw the parallelism in his understanding of the spectrum of thought and metaphysics in the classroom and, more importantly, outside of them. Hughes does an incredible job of understanding the spheres of influence that connect us as humans and allow us to change our lens around these relationships. Hughes is hyper-focused on the rich resources bonding together philosophy, spirituality, and self-help in a global scene with what feels like very well-researched data and knowledge.

I loved how Hughes structured the coalitions of support and fostered positive relationships, partnerships, and peer-to-peer relationship interactions while still helping highlight and build up marginalized populations, which was my favorite part of the book. By combining his plethora of references from Albert Einstein, Alan Watts, and Carl Jung to Rev. Dr. John Watson, he shows us that being “in it together" is a relationship that can be developed.

The best summary is that Hughes gave us the tools to build bridges to connect, taking spiritual freedom to a whole new level. I got a sense of collective consciousness and its growth when I read this book. Anyone who cares about elevating themselves in a spiritual sense will benefit from her methodologies in this book.

I will end it with this: I was captivated by Hughes’ story and riveted to the end. He is a beautiful writer who has captured the essence of the “self” and of unearthing our true selves through self-discovery. This pioneering novel by Hughes transforms our understanding of building strong relationships with our inner selves and offers a bold new paradigm for healing the journey we are all on. A story that is timeless. Bravo. 5 out of 5.

:shock2: There is only one thing a philosopher can be relied upon to do, and that is to contradict other philosophers”
