ARA Review by Stacey Uffelman Uffelman of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

I am not sure what I was expecting when I agreed to review this book--normally, I don't care to read non-fiction books.
Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed by this one. I give it a one out of five.

One of the reasons I give the book a one out of five is that he author wrote in run-on sentences, and repeated several quotes and ideas numerous times, as if he was more interested in making the book longer than he was in getting to his point.

The run-on sentences and constant repetition bored me so much that a quarter of the way through the book, all I wanted to do was get to the end and be done with it.

I found that I also disagreed with a lot of the author's "points" when I did understand them. In one case, he put Martin Luther King on the same level as Jesus Christ, calling them both "influencers". In my personal belief, Dr. King hardly compares with the Son of God!

The author constantly talked about "loving our past and future selves" as thought everyone was some sort of split personality. He also gave quotes from people either that I never heard of or personally didn't care what their opinion was, if I had ever heard of them.

Another thing I didn't care for regarding this book was the use of words that I guess were supposed to be "psychological"--with no explanation (ie: a footnote with the definition at the bottom) as to what they meant. I had no idea what the author was talking about the majority of the time.

This is not a book I would recommend to anyone, unless they have nothing better to do, actually enjoy being bored, want to read constant run-on sentences, or enjoy pointless psychobabble.
