The book (i) Spiral (/i)by James M. Fisher is about a teenager facing a future that he was unsure of.The title generates a sense that things were going into a spin where the situation seems uncontrollable.

He was concerned about the Vietnamese war because he was eligible to be drafted and was eager to get away from home from his Dad and Stepmother.

The step mother insisted he attend a private school instead of the nearby public school where he had many friends. It seem step mother was ruling his life in an unloving way. He survived that by concentrating on surfing and punk songs with a very good friend.

He often reflected back to the earlier loving life with his mom who passed away earlier.

Like any teenager he had to let go of his youth and find his place among the adults needing girl friends as well.

This is a fascinating story of a youth in the throes of manhood living in the 'wannabe' society of his stepmother but trying to live his own carefree life.

I rate this story (b) 4 out of 5 stars (/b). I could have given it 3 stars but for of the intricacies of the story.
