ARA Review by Samuel Lambe of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In It Together is a thought-provoking philosophical novel where the author, Eckhart Aurelius Hughes, shares his insight on finding inner peace, uniting humanity and discovering identity.

Being a philosophical novice, this was a unique experience where I - the reader - was challenged to question my own moral standings and consider life from someone else's perspective entirely. The experience was liberating, infuriating and humbling as I was dared - on numerous occasions - to reconsider everything that I thought I knew about life. The topics covered in this book are well balanced with purposeful and powerful quotes by world renowned philosophers of the past, which really added depth and meaning to the points that Hughes tries to make. Each topic flows seamlessly into the next; the content is well thought out, with each thought-provoking question serving as a point of reflection as well as a base for the next point that Hughes aims to make.

What I don't generally like is, at times, the points are quite repetitive as Hughes tries to make the same point using different diction. I also feel that some of the topics are slightly dragged out, and contradictive of themselves. On a more pet-peevish note, I would have liked to see some of the facts that Hughes highlights be backed up by a bibliography at the end where I could have had a read through of the articles that he sourced his information from.

One thing that I feel is done really well, that I didn't truly appreciate at first, is the way that Hughes has the ability to break down complex philosophical ideologies into simplistic ideas that almost anyone could understand.

I would rate this book 4/5 stars. I really liked the way the author merged each thought-provoking idea into the next, which led to what felt like a highly natural conclusion, but I wouldn't give the book 5 stars because of the repetitiveness that crept in, that became tiresome by the end.
