ARA Review by Ruth Ferguson of Poetry to Ponder
In Poetry to Ponder: Good News!, Joy introduces readers to good news of salvation – the solution for sin in humanity. Joy begins by highlighting that as human beings, we are incapable of curing the sickness of sin in ourselves and that only God can. The God mentioned in the Bible is sovereign and His very nature embodies all that is good. Joy identified where the sin problem originated and encapsulates the result – the corruption of all that God created as beautiful and what were designed as His creation to be in harmony with each other. The consequences of the problem to sin, were “pride, envy, hatred, deceit, greed, injustice and unfaithfulness in our human interactions,” according to Joy.
Through the poems in her book, Joy takes readers on a journey of discovery into the heart and nature of God, and the One who is in control. Joy explains why we are tested in this life and she answers the question of how God is love but imputes justice on those who remain in sin and rebellion against Him. She also presents the clear solution to sin which unfolded in God’s plan of salvation for all humanity through Jesus incarnate and His sacrificial death while on Earth.
When I think about all the injustices in the world and how saddened I am by how humanity treats each other, it causes me to yearn for immortality in a place that is incorruptible. While there are seemingly more questions than answers in this life, the majesty of creation itself points me to One who is greater and understands our shortcomings because of sin. That is the reason for God’s plan of salvation – to reconcile humanity to Him and to change our perspective and purpose for living. Once there is life, there is purpose.
Joy’s book is truly inspirational. Her choice of Biblical verses demonstrates how noteworthy are the messages that she brought across to readers.
I thoroughly enjoyed Poetry to Ponder: Good News! from start to finish. I felt encouraged by her words and enlightenment from the messages she presented. I cannot say that there is any reason not to want to read this book, if you are looking for answers and hope for better to come. Therefore, I give Joy’s book, Poetry to Ponder: Good News! 5 out 5 stars for such well worded and thought-provoking masterpieces in poetry that points humanity to a gracious, loving and merciful God.
