ARA Review by Naterothwrite of In It Together

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

In It Together by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes is a journey into the universal connections that unite us, with love, discipline, and unity as its foundation. Hughes draws on a tapestry of philosophical and spiritual voices, from Jesus and Alan Watts to Nietzsche and Jung, to show how self-discipline and freedom are interwoven. Through a conversational style, he encourages readers to see personal struggles as essential to growth, leading to a deeper understanding of self and an appreciation for shared human experiences. His approach redefines self-discipline as a form of liberation, challenging common perspectives on struggle and resilience.

My favorite line is, “Stay strong, my friends. There’s beauty in the struggle. There’s so much to overcome, but imagine what it could mean to overcome it.” This line captures Hughes’ optimistic approach, blending encouragement with realism. His main points, unity through shared struggle and self-acceptance through discipline, are well-supported by diverse references, effectively meeting his goal of inspiring readers to find peace within themselves and others.

Hughes’ warm and inviting style makes complex ideas approachable, allowing readers to absorb deep concepts. The conversational tone and frequent use of quotes add both relatability and depth, making the material accessible to a wide audience. This inclusivity ensures that readers will find themselves reflecting on the themes with a new appreciation for the beauty of resilience and personal growth.

The unique framing of self-discipline as spiritual freedom adds a fresh perspective to personal growth, inviting readers to reconsider traditional ideas about struggle and strength. This would be a fitting read for anyone seeking self-discovery and deeper purpose, especially those interested in philosophy or spirituality.

While the wide scope of references enriches the book’s message, the shifts in focus can feel slightly overwhelming at times, which may detract from the main themes. Despite this, In It Together provides an inspiring and impactful read, leaving a lasting impression that will leave readers entertained and engaged. For its blend of wisdom, accessibility, and a touch of humor, I give it a 4 out of 5.
