ARA Review by YukiNotAvailable of I have diabetes; diabetes does not have me.

The ARA Review Exchange is a system in which authors review other authors' books, generlaly in exchange for getting their own book reviews by other authors. However, the person who reviews a author's book is not the same person whose book that author reviewed. This way, author reviews do not influence each other, such as by an author being inclined to reward a good review by deliving one in return or deliver a negative review as revenge.

"I Have Diabetes; Diabetes Does Not Have Me: Breaking BAD" by Ian Tonge is a powerful and personal account of living with diabetes. Tonge shares his journey with honesty and humor, offering a fresh perspective on managing the condition. Rather than presenting diabetes as a limitation, he encourages readers to take control of their health and not let the disease define them. His storytelling is engaging and relatable, making the book a valuable resource for those newly diagnosed, long-time sufferers, and even caregivers. I rate this book 5 out of 5 for its inspiring and informative approach.

One of the book’s strengths is how it addresses the uncertainties that come with diabetes. Tonge explores common concerns such as “Could I?”, “Should I?”, and “What happens if, and when, I?”—questions that many diabetics struggle with daily. He offers practical insights and reassures readers that they are not alone in their journey. This approach makes the book not just informative but also deeply reassuring for those navigating life with diabetes.

In addition to personal anecdotes, Tonge provides a brief history of diabetes, helping readers understand how the condition has evolved over time. By blending personal experiences with medical facts, he creates a well-rounded narrative that is both educational and inspirational. His emphasis on maintaining a positive mindset despite the challenges of diabetes reinforces the book’s core message: diabetes may be a part of your life, but it does not control you.

What makes this book even more impactful is its purpose beyond storytelling. Tonge donates the proceeds from his book to diabetes research and related charities, making his work not just a personal project but also a contribution to the wider diabetic community. This commitment adds another layer of meaning to the book, showing that he truly cares about making a difference in the lives of others with diabetes.

Overall, "I Have Diabetes; Diabetes Does Not Have Me" is an empowering and informative read that combines personal experience with practical advice. Tonge’s engaging writing style, humor, and positive outlook make it a standout among books on diabetes. Whether you are living with diabetes, supporting a loved one, or simply looking for an inspiring read, this book offers valuable insights and encouragement. I highly recommend it and give it a 5 out of 5 rating.
