I like books with strong female characters. Women have passed the stage where they are portrayed as weak and inferior in books. The female characters in this book really held their own in the face of dire situation.

Definitely Anne. She knew when to stop and when to persevere. I am glad that the book portrayed a myriad of female characters who are so inspiring in their own way.

Louise and Sarah took the spotlight for me. I loved how both persevered, in their separate ways, despite the odds stacked against them. Louise might seem hard and uncaring, but she did what she had to do. Sarah was like this beacon of hope throughout the story.

I agree. I loved them both throughout the book, especially Louise. Initially I thought she is one of those bossy wives like Joyce, but as I got to know her, I loved her strength and decisiveness.

Although I liked all strong females in this book, my favorite character was totally Anne. I loved her unique personality and her stubbornness and rebellious nature.

I love when women are portrait as strong individuals. Both Anne and Louise did that for me.
