Yeah, that's interesting. I would think that persistence and determination are traits that a person just develop on their own after childhood. But it's interesting how children might be set up to develop them through certain experiences.Ferdinand_otieno wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 13:30It was also inspiring noting how these traits-persistence and determination-were nutured from childhood experiences.Nathan Berner wrote: ↑01 Aug 2019, 12:09I agree that this was a very inspiring part of his character (which I also should try to cultivate). I feel like his persistence showed how much he wanted to succeed and how determined he was as a person.srividyag1 wrote: ↑01 Aug 2019, 11:50 I always find it difficult to stay motivated if I don't get the expected outcomes for what I have done, either as the fulfillment of goals or as self-improvement. I find that the author on the other hand just continues doing what he thinks is right and just, even when he is not rewarded or is ignored. I think that is an admirable quality and one which I want to cultivate.

These sort of things still happen in the world today. What sets one apart, in the end, is grit!Ferdinand_otieno wrote: ↑02 Jul 2019, 00:11Yes, I agree. At one point they had refused to recognize him ad the best student for some years, but he did not let that bother him and instead kept working to be the best.Stephanie Elizabeth wrote: ↑01 Jul 2019, 10:50 I admired his ability to persevere throughout his education when the odds were stacked against him. He could have been discouraged by the discrimination towards him by some of the school faculty, but he chose to rise above and keep going!
