I love their names too, like Bog Slippery and the Splash brothers, Peter Patrick Peterson, a magician, and Will’s Echo, the Prince of Echoland. I just thought they were fun.

Will's last name as well. "Cleary" = clear. But he's a Sound, not an Echo. Scratching my head in wonder. :?

I'm not someone to check over the meaning of names whenever I read novels, but I assume the author just chose random names, except for Will of course.

When I first read his name I read it as Clearly :lol2: maybe it's a nod towards the strong connection he has with his Echo and their prestige in Echoland?

I am of the same belief that random names were selected.

I also just noticed Bog Slippery was introduced as "B.S." first, and I thought of something else that B.S. stands for...

Herbstlicht wrote: 01 Sep 2019, 11:47 What did you think about the meaning of names in the book? Some are pretty self-explanatory: "Will" is speaking volumes of the character, "Damian" is the alter ego.

What are other examples that come to mind?
Wow! I never thought about this. The meaning of the names of the characters makes sense, in light of how they acted. Nice thought.

I never really thought an author would choose names based on a particular meaning. I just thought they had names like everyone else. Interesting thing to ponder.

It may be, of course, that we over interpret the names, but I feel there are too many special names in this book the author has added meaning to.

I felt Auralius was named as if he is the "light" that will help transform Echoland.

Dew pellucos was the only one I think had meaning. The others were just a fun play on words (alliterations) or random

And this author has so many hidden gems of seemingly small details throughout her story, I think she would have thought out some of the names as well

And he is in a way! In echoland he is treated like garbage because he is a mongrel, but in olam shone they are treated favorably because they are a blend of both sounds and echoes- he perfect balance (or harmonies). The goal would be to get those one echoland to see the beauty in a "mongrel" and transform, or bring light, to their dark views
