See this doesnt matter to me as much as it being a well written book

This matters to me because a well-balanced character development means a great book all around.

That's true. But an all Male cast can have great character development and be a great book. Likewise an all female cast with well developed characters could be a great book.

I cant help but think if the roles were reversed and the main set of characters in this book were female and the Male characters had played a minimal role in the overall storyline, it wouldnt even be questioned as it is now

True, and B.Truly has had success writing in the format your suggesting.

There wernt Mny female characters. Emmy and pellucid though needed to stay in the background in a way though so as not to give away wills identity.

I wonder though, if the cast had been mainly female - would the question of Male characters not playing a large roll even be asked?

I fet like the author could have explored characters like Pellucid, Emmy, and Valerie more and their PoV.

The females in the story do seem to have less important roles. Even though they were twins, it seemed like Emily's only real purpose was to get Will to travel to Echoland.

I think you hit the nail on the head! The book was set up to seem like Emmy was going to be the main purpose of the book, but she really was just the reason to get him there.

And
I hope Emmy gets a more detailed role in future books.
I really think she will! This book ended with Emmy saying she was finally able to shout to the world that will was her brother and that she was able to go on many adventures with him. Starting with a magic carpet ride to olam shone!

I totally agree! The girls played a pivotal role in the book, but were not given as much importance as each of the male characters in the book. Of all the girls, I think that Emmy should have had a bigger role within the story. Will did go into the pond to save her afterall. But, once he was there, he didn't seem to worry or care about her too much. I think that they should have had more of a relationship, even though I know they were trying to protect Will's identity.

See this is where I felt a disconnect because, yes she had to keep a distance for the sake of keeping wills identity, but she felt more like an acquaintance than family

It was an intriguing monologue that promised that there would be more adventures for Will and Emmy. I hope we see her being the protagonist for a change.
