It is kind of strange to have the initial plot driven by the need to find a missing sister, only to leave her behind. It's as if the book was written for teenage boys who dream of adventures and explorations.

I agree. I am interested in Emmy's story. What she went through must be intense.

I agree. Their reunion was anticlimactic and although she helped Will at times, her character was pushed to the sidelines.

I hated the way she was written. She was such a significant part to the first part of the book, then she was just barely audible background noise for the rest of the book.

I totally agree with you! I would have loved if Emmy's character have a lot to do in plot!

I totally agree she was the whole reason that Will went to Echoland and yet not mentioned much. Her character development is also basically nonexistent. The end when the family is reunited, seemed rushed and there wasn't really a response from the parents at seeing her again after years of her being gone.

Emily was not a downplayed character at all. You think so because of her role in the plot. All that the author wanted us to know about her is her disappearance, and her being sought for. She was not meant to be the chief character.

It reminds me of Will in Stranger Things. Will is shown at the beginning and end, but the plot revolves around finding him which sets the whole story in motion.

I was also disappointed in the way Will found her - immediately, standing over him when he woke up. There was no adventure in searching for her, she was just there and then pretty much insignificant after that.
Completely agree with you! Especially since the tale began with the sole motivation of finding her and saving her, yet she just sort of mundane manifested and then peripherally existed without further mention. I felt it was an odd choice by the author to have that portion of the plot progress in the way that it did.

It's true. After they have discovered that she was still alive, she didn't appear in the plot so often. In the summary of the story, her disappearance is one of the main reason as to why Will has to go to echoland.

Right. Another not fully explored aspect in the novel that disappoints.

I have to keep remembering that this is a young adult fantasy. I guess this type of plot doesn't necessarily have to tie up all the loose ends.

After putting so much into finding her and talking about how their parents are without her, I expected some big moment when he finds her and taking her home. It left me feeling let down when it was like she wasn't even really there. Like, she didn't really do anything. To be honest, she was a character I struggled to remember her name, is how little she impacted me.

I was actually quite underwhelmed and confused at the end, the entire premise of the story was to find Emily but when it actually happens, she doesn't actually play a major role. Their reaction to the reunion was also quite underplayed. I'd like to think I'd be much more emotional meeting my lost sister after a decade!
