A lot of themes stand out in this book from espionage, crime, romance, friendship, politics, war, and conflict. Which do you think is the major theme in the story? And why?

For me conflict seems to be a driving force to the plot and is thus the major theme, in my opinion. The conflict instigated byPieter de Groote, conflict associated with Johnny cook's kidnapping and the husstle of his rescue, the conflict of theassassination plot...all in all, it was a major theme in this book. What about you?

On one hand conflict is the basis for their entire story; if Johnny Cook had not been kidnapped, there would srill be conflict between Piere de groote and the East African Mining company, a planned assassination and the chance of no peaceful handing off of power. Politics on the other hand, is what causes most of these conflicts; WWII antagonists like Germans and Japanese are working on distabilising Malay. Politics is the cause for the chance of the assassination attempt while power is being handed down to the MCP. using this argument, politics can be easily argured to be the major theme in this book.

I think that author has blended everything very nicely but still I will say that conflict is the major theme of this book.

I agree with you, conflict is the most prominent theme in all the series.

In my opinion, reading the book I can agree conflict is a major theme in the book. However, politics is an 'overlapping' theme also. Because, the main protagonist is interested in takeover of the Malayan government and his associates also wanted their fair share in the political sphere of the region. So, politics is a strong theme in the book.

I go for Politics. Conflicts start when there are egoes between the two countries. Romance doesn't emphasize much.

I see conflict as the major theme of the book. Taking the book as a whole, conflict seems to take two-third of the book. All the kidnappings were as a result of the conflict. Almost everything that happened in the book was as a result of the conflict. So, I conclude that the major theme of the book is the conflict.

I think Greg Kater has addressed all the themes of crime, conflicts, among others. He has blended them into a very neutral phenomena. Despite this, we cannot deny the fact that crime has a louder voice. Beginning with Jonny Crook's kidnap. He's been kidnapped and stays in thick jungle for several days. We see the presence of four armed men who ambush Jonny and kills the driver. In addition, we see bandits conduct hit-and-run incidents on banks and payrolls. We also see deaths of five people by bandits including two military police among other crimes.

My thoughts go back to the title, Skills of the Warramunga. What would have happened to the characters without Jacko and Sarah? To me, that is the thread that ties the book together.

Conflict of some sort is at the heart of any work of fiction. What's different here is that it is violent conflict. So violence may be an important theme. And what about greed and the lust for power?

Nailed it. Greed and lust for power are themes of secondary importance IMHO.

I think politics stands out. The whole drama that played out in this book was majorly instigated by politics.

The major theme that stood out for me in this book was the theme of military conflict. The kidnappings were what really played a major part in the book and all events revolved around it.

Conflict is what really seams to bring action throughout the book.
