I was fascinated by the scene where Johnny encountered the big cat and how he braved the situation. Consequently, he earned the respect of his abductors.

The rescue of Inspector Douglas and Colonel Samuel Martin was a real thrill, especially since the latter has obviously lost his mind. In the moment of his rescue and even later on - going through the jungle to get to the ambulance and police anything could have happened.

I really enjoyed the parts in which Johnny Cook and Inspector Douglas were rescued by Jacko and his team. Also, I liked the scene in which local bandits, Japanese, and Germans tried to take over control of Malaya. Those were suspenseful, well-described scenes!

Johnny's rescue mission was a tensed one. I just couldn't hide my fears of what would befall Jacko, Jamie, and Sarah if they could be caught.

For me it was Corporal Amal Singh not being caught red handed in caves by the bandits.

Cook’s abduction was an intense scene, but also the day of the parade was suspenseful as well. I kept wanting to know if the team as actually going to be able to pinpoint the bandits hiding in the buildings all around the square. 🥺

I was thrilled by the unfolding of events following Johnny Cook's capture. He is captured by a deadly gang and no one knows about his whereabouts. I was eager to know how a search mission to find him was going to be plotted.

The parade with all the confusion and deception where insurgents replaced the soldiers but the 'Japanese eyes' sold them out. I also loved when the masses cheered when missiles were exploded, not perceiving the danger that surrounded them. This was a hair-raising scene.

The scene of the parade of 1st April send chills down my spine. I could not put the book down since I was curious to know how the rescue goes. It was amusing when the onlookers cheered when the missiles exploded. Apparently they thought the army did this for their entertainment. I marveled at how oblivious they were to the danger that surrounded them.

The way Cook stood up to that tiger and how his bravery earned him respect in the society, where he was considered a foreigner, put at the end of my seat. The identity of all those culprits behind the current unfortunate situation, that was going on left me in suspense, was also left out by the author.
