Crime/Thriller Book Discussion - Nov. 2019

Post by Heidi M Simone »

For the month of November, we will be reading books in the crime and/or thriller genres.
  • Crime: It's a genre that presents crimes, the investigation to the crimes, criminals, and their motives in a fictional way. Most times, suspense and mystery are woven into the book's plot.

  • Thriller: This genre leaves readers at "the edge of their seats." There are feelings of suspense, anticipation, and maybe even anxiety as the reader dives deeper into the story. Plot twists, red herrings, and cliffhangers planted throughout the read is common for this genre.
As we begin our discussion, consider the following questions:
  • What are you reading?
  • When you are done, did you enjoy the book? Why or why not?
  • Share the book's genre. Were there other genres woven into the plot? If so, what were they?
As always, let's have fun!

I am currently reading The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. It's definitely a thriller and includes a crime, but I'm not sure what other genres are woven into the novel at this point. I'm really liking it so far! Has anyone read this book?

I'll come back here once I'm done, but it's one of those reads where I enjoy opening the book and can dive right back in!

I finished it and really enjoyed it! The Silent Patient was about a woman who shoots her husband to death and becomes silent. No one knows why it happened because she just stops talking after the event occurred. There's a doctor who's determined to figure out the truth.

There's definitely a crime here and I would say it was also a psychological thriller. I give it a 4/4 stars and recommend it to those who enjoy psychological thrillers.

I also gave it 4 stars. I couldn't stop reading the book and didn't guess the ending, though I had my suspicions.
