Thought provoking question and now that you mentioned it I thought about it, I wouldnt say they were "too many" though. I can still remember each character and their role and I think they served their purpose well.

I don't think there were too many characters, I just think the focus shifted between all of them too much. I think the majority of the focus should have been on Tom and Kelly. The viewpoint bounced around too much in my opinion.

I don't think there were too many characters. I think it's an issue of the author removing the main focus from the main characters, Tom and Kelly. There are many books with way more characters. It's just about knowing how to balance them and develop them. For example, Game of Thrones or even Harry Potter.

I do not think there were too many characters, but I suppose the author gave more attention to minor characters than I would have preferred.

I agree that there were a lot of characters in this book. I did not feel overwhelmed with this though. I thought it just made it more interesting!

In direct answer to the question, I say no.
The total cast of characters can easily be counted on my fingers. Even as I am writing, I have noted fifteen, out of which about seven are the central characters. In my opinion, these are well within the average. What is even more interesting is that two weeks after reading the book, I can still list all the characters offhand.

I think everything about the characters was done intentionally. Weather the characters were underdeveloped it was a writing skill employed by the author.

I do not think the characters were many. I just saw this whole thing as a unique way the author choose to write. This book had enough of the characters required.

They were quite a several number of characters in this novel, the likes of Joseph Rench and Steve Spalding and I believe the introduction of these characters made the book most captivating.

The characters weren't too many, the author just didn't build on the main characters well enough

I do not think there were too many characters introduced in this book. I can to what you said about not being able to attach yourself to any character. I felt that way too and that could probably be because most characters in this book were not well developed.

I don't think there were too many characters in the story. They all seem very underdeveloped or maybe that was the intention of the author to stay surface level with them all.
