I must just have high expectations, because I didn't really like it. Adam was really repulsive at first, and once Carly figured out about Terry, I don't see how she could have continued in the relationship. She also had an inkling about JoAnn. Adam still seemed a bit out of control, and may still have the hots for his mom. I don't trust him.

I read half a chapter, if I remember correctly, and couldn’t continue. It was just too disturbing and wrong and not my cup of tea.
I am not going to continue reading though. It’s my first DNF of 2020.

I think the premise of the novel set high expectations, but it was a severe let down. The Oedipus complex of Adam is so off-putting and to have it within the first few pages of the story? I can't say it was a positive choice.

I debated throwing it on my DNF list after the first 25 pages, but I decided to give it until page 100 to turn around. I shouldn't have invested that much effort into it, because it did not impress me. I reached page 100 and by then, I was halfway and just thought I'd take it like a shot. I should have abandoned it.

Yeah. Many people share your idea I guess. That is what finally helped me reach this decision.

Haven't read the book yet but the review of it makes me curious. I'd really love to meet the character Adam.

I was not that interested in the book by the title, cover or genre but as I read it I found it so well written and so interesting. It seemed really well planned and thought out.

It made me think about certain subjects more deeply. I was touched by the love story between Carly and Adam, which seemed so deep and seemed to make him into an entirely different person. It also seemed so far away from the dramas I hear about so often in love stories. It seemed that through that he became a better person and found himself which I thought was so sweet

I also began thinking more about telepathy and whether there really is something like that in some people, and is it really science fiction, or some ability that some people have

The concept of prolonging youth...years ago I read somewhere that humans have a gene that if activated we could live for a thousand years or so, but I font remember who said that and if it is something scientific or not and I have not read any further on that

But I felt the book has quite a few hidden messages and subjects worth researching

The book is currently on my "To Read" list and I honestly can't wait to dig in since from the majority of comments it has good character development and it's also a genre I enjoy.

I find it interesting that there are so many comments here rating the book as 4 stars. When I read some of the other discussion posts for this book it really turned me away from wanting to read the book. There is a reason I love YA and it sounds like this book would be a real disappointment in that aspect. It sounds like a dark book with themes that are not appropriate for the YA genre. Don't get me wrong, I know there needs to be some evil to overcome in every good story, but that evil takes on different characteristics in a good YA book. Although romance can be part of YA books it sounds like there is just too much sexual perversion in this book for it to be appropriate for teens. So why 4 stars? What makes it so good you would recommend it? Can anyone convince me to read this book which is written in a genre I love?

Overall, I did not really enjoy this book. The plot was mediocre, but I couldn't stand any of the characters. They were very two-dimensional, and were not realistic. Some of the decisions they made did not make any sense. This would not be a book I would recommend to others.

It took some time to actually warm up to the book. I gave it a couple of second chances. And that turned out well. First, Adam's Oedipus complex was so disturbing and hard to digest, and then there came murder. Unintended or not, it had me pause and close the book for an hour before getting back to it. And suddenly with Clary, Adam's twisted psyche mellows down to what can be called socially acceptable standards. Also, Clary senses the darkness in him. And it is there I had an issue. There seemed a sudden growth in his character. It would have been better if he had been made to work for it. And what with that darkness peeking out now and then, I give the book a 3 out of 4 stars.
Books may well be the only true magic.

From the kindle sample, i'm definitely reading this book despite the dark cloud surrounding the characters. Thanks!

This was my first book to read and review. I enjoyed the sci-fi and superhero element immensely. The surprising twists made me want to continue reading to see what comes next. I am anxious to read the second book in the Scion Saga. I did not like the darkness of Adam's character at first but as I continued reading everything made sense. I would rate this book 4 stars. I recommend this book to anyone over the age of 13 who is a sci-fi or superhero fan.

The summary of the book and the other book reviews made the book sound amazing. The story had potential. However, I didn’t like it, and I would hesitate to recommend this book to others. The reasons I did not like this book include its potential influence on young adult readers, Terry, and some writing issues. The best part of this book was Joanne.
