I am not going to continue reading though. It’s my first DNF of 2020.

I think the premise of the novel set high expectations, but it was a severe let down. The Oedipus complex of Adam is so off-putting and to have it within the first few pages of the story? I can't say it was a positive choice.Wacamato1961 wrote: ↑25 Feb 2020, 19:05 I must just have high expectations, because I didn't really like it. Adam was really repulsive at first, and once Carly figured out about Terry, I don't see how she could have continued in the relationship. She also had an inkling about JoAnn. Adam still seemed a bit out of control, and may still have the hots for his mom. I don't trust him.

I debated throwing it on my DNF list after the first 25 pages, but I decided to give it until page 100 to turn around. I shouldn't have invested that much effort into it, because it did not impress me. I reached page 100 and by then, I was halfway and just thought I'd take it like a shot. I should have abandoned it.

Yeah. Many people share your idea I guess. That is what finally helped me reach this decision.rath010 wrote: ↑26 Feb 2020, 00:55I debated throwing it on my DNF list after the first 25 pages, but I decided to give it until page 100 to turn around. It made me think about certain subjects more deeply. I was touched by the love story between Carly and Adam, which seemed so deep and seemed to make him into an entirely different person. It also seemed so far away from the dramas I hear about so often in love stories. It seemed that through that he became a better person and found himself which I thought was so sweet
I also began thinking more about telepathy and whether there really is something like that in some people, and is it really science fiction, or some ability that some people have
The concept of prolonging youth...years ago I read somewhere that humans have a gene that if activated we could live for a thousand years or so, but I font remember who said that and if it is something scientific or not and I have not read any further on that
But I felt the book has quite a few hidden messages and subjects worth researching
