I'm the same way! I wouldn't be able to concentrate on the next book if I put one down prematurely... It would haunt me

I agree! Honestly, I'm not quite sure WHERE to put this book... I just know it's not going into the YA genre. And you are right, it would have become a slippery slope very quickly had he crossed that line.Kelyn wrote: ↑27 Feb 2020, 00:00It shouldn't have been dubbed YA in the first place. Even though I don't think it qualifies as erotica and certainly not porn (there are far more explicit books out there in almost every bookstore's romance section), having his resistance crumble and beginning an actual relationship with his mom would have taken it up (down?) several levels in tone. I agree that it would probably have led to his acting out in other areas/ways as well.Howlan wrote: ↑26 Feb 2020, 15:03Yes, it would have been really disturbing and the book would have been erotica instead of YArbrochhausen wrote: ↑24 Feb 2020, 21:55 If Carly hadn't come into the scene I think Adam would've kept spiraling out of control. His feelings towards his mother were not normal and he didn't know how to handle himself. I think his emotions would have got the better of him and he would keep acting out in worse and worse ways.

Agreed, I can see what the author was trying to do, the execution just wasn't done well enough to justify such an extremely dark path Adam was on.

Agreed! Personally, it probably wasn't worth sticking with it though...

I get what you are saying, but for me "the serum excuse" just didn't make it any less creepy.readerrihana wrote: ↑27 Feb 2020, 10:50 I agree that it was not really apporopriate and was not nice reading, but I guess in reality it was trying to show - we find out later on that the attraction was not actually sexual but because of something she had been given and he was attracted to that but was unaware

It was pretty easy to miss... I think they say a quick sentence about it when Adam is seeing her memories.readerrihana wrote: ↑27 Feb 2020, 11:44To be honest ifud not realise that she had feelings for him. I guess I missed that part

The author should work on these twists more as most of us had enough of Adam!

From a detective fiction, I guess with Adam as the antagonist.Nym182 wrote: ↑27 Feb 2020, 09:51It's like she took a character from another book and tried to make him fit in.Howlan wrote: ↑26 Feb 2020, 15:39Yes, I wonder what the author was trying to do!gilliansisley wrote: ↑26 Feb 2020, 12:03
So damn true-- how were these feelings supposed to help us resonate with Adam, and feel bad for him after all the terrible things he's done? I'm not sure what the goal was with this character, realistically.
