You have a point there though. But this is a fantasy book, so I guess anything is possible here.

I have to point out that this is one of those fantasies in which the ordeals that the protagonists face are not as far-fetched as in the other fantasies. Adam and Carly did not simply jump out of places to fight people and actually took things sensibly.

As far as the genre goes, young protagonists facing massive odds isn't that out of place, but in this particular story Adam and Carly didn't feel like teenagers at all. And if they did it was only fleeting. As a professional teenager I can confirm that most of their mannerisms we're seriously odd.

It's very hard to get such a deep level of understanding in teenage characters. I am not sure whether it's really relatable. The story seems to drift towards a much older audience.

I don't think they're very relatable. Before they both began showing supernatural abilities, I'd say maybe at best. But after and how they responded to different situations, I felt that they both acted much older than they really were.
