Oh yes, I haven't thought of it like that!

vagrimes wrote: 03 May 2020, 08:42 I definitely agree. Additionally, the concept of "synching" with another Descendent to me seemed very similar to the way werewolves imprint in Twilight. The book reminded me of a hybrid between Twilight and the 2005 movie Sky High about teen superheroes. The scene where the teen Descendents showed off their powers reminded me of when the kids got to Sky High for the first time and demonstrated their powers to the coach.
Oh that's right! I loved the Sky High movie. I totally agree wrt power demonstration.

They sure do! But to be honest, the twilight romance did not make me cringe as much.

I can see it with the love triangle. Kane being similar to kind and bright Jacob. Adam being broody Edward. Carly as our Bella. That's an interesting perspective I did not have while reading the book, but I can definitely see it.

The book was no where equal to or like twilight. Twilight is just amazing and i did not find that amazing vibe in this book.

The shielding with Adam and the romance with Kane and Carly are what seems like Twilight. The eyes can be explained away with genetics and pointed out that even in Underworld Selene and the other vamps had blue eyes when they let their inner monster out. The special abilities thing is also telling, and kinda reminded me of the DC and MCU.

I didn't make that connection at all but now that you mention it, I see it. I think that's because it's been many years and books later since I read the Twilight saga. Also, I feel the author has enough of an original plot, especially in the second half of the book that it isn't super evident.

Have you just read Twilight or is this based on what you remember from reading it years ago? I loved the book when I was younger but when I read it again when I was a bit older, it wasn't as amazing as I had previously thought. But yes, I agree that Opaque wasn't amazing either.

I was scared it was going to be just a spin off and not very interesting because I have already read the twilight books- but I think the author managed to turn it in the middle and towards the end so it didn’t read exactly like the Twilight series.
Yes, you are right! I completely agree with you. I was afraid of the same thing but I was glad it turned out to be different.

I just finished this book and initially I thought it was a bit similiar, highschool kids, love triangle..but this book almost seemd darker and more edgy that Twilight. I'm glad it wasn't as similiar as I thought, some of the characteristics can be mimicked, but you can say that about many characters in other series regarding a dark, broody hero. Overall, I really enjoyed this book for what it was.

Now that you've said it, there are similarities between them, like the poppy field hangout compared to the lavender(?) field in one in Twilight.

Most books these days, especially under the young adult genre, have a subtle similarity. The plots seem to be building up in the same way.
