Woodswoman by Anne LaBastille

This book was so good. Its basically the authors account of the time she spent living secluded in the Adirondack Mountains for years. She builds her own log cabin, gets a pet fox, has run-ins with bears and all sorts of other animals. It was great reading about how a real woman was able to live independently in the wild.

Sortof like Christopher Johnson McCandless in John Krakauer's "Into the Wild" only she wrote this one herself years earlier. 70's not 90's

my only warning would be she makes a point to tell you the name of practically every animal she comes in contact with.

As in she gave them all names, such Bobby the Bear (best I could do on short notice :) , or names the species themselves?

ha she would tell u the exact species of owl or other bird or otter or whatever else she heard or came into contact with. i should have been more clear lol no actual naming going on...well except for her pet cat, fox, and dog.
