Quick Review: Lords of Vegas by Kurt Divich

Post by peterchast »

I was asked to write a review for this book on Amazon a few months ago, so I figured I would post it here as well. It isn't very thorough, but I think I hit the important points.

The book begins with a mystery that slowly unravels. I found myself clutching the edges of my kindle from stress and anticipation, unwilling to put it down. The story arc really reminds me of a mafia movie, a slow buildup to an eventual and inevitable downfall. The catch is, you never know who it will be until the very end.

The importance of a few of the minor characters is lost on me and the denouement ties the bow a bit too prettily (that is just a personal preference I suppose), but none of that matters in comparison to what the story accomplishes. Money, power, deceit, drama, intrigue, friendship, and love: I really don't know what else to ask for in a political thriller. Kurt somehow manages to avoid the cliches and offers a fresh perspective of Las Vegas. He tells a gripping, gritty tale with an insider's look into Sin City. Definitely a good read and I would love to see an adaptation of this on the bigscreen!
