Atlantis 2013: The Chosen by Erica S. Avery is a first book. It is a unique story about the end of the world. All of it starts with the Mayan calendar and how, unlike previously believed, the Mayans were off by one year. The world seems to be just the same as any other day when weird things started to happen. In addition to all the natural disasters that are happening all over the world, there are a choice few that are having supernatural events happening to them personally.

The story is divided between four groups of people from different areas of the world who all seem to be linked, but do not know it yet. They are what some would call the “Chosen Ones” There is an architect, Eric, from New Jersey and his family, a group of friends from Miami, a couple from China and their friend, and finally a group of “vigilantes” based in Egypt. All these groups of people have been having odd experiences happening to them, ranging from dreams to out of body experiences. Some of these experiences have been happening since they were small children and never knew what they met. While for some these events have just started to happen to them in the last few days.

As these events become more and more intense, all four groups of people are lead to the same small city on the coast of Washington. As two of these groups are on the way to Aberdeen, Washington, they meet at a gas station and have to defeat the “vigilantes” in order to get a very important item that is needed to complete their mission. As all the members of the “Chosen Ones” enter the final leg of the mission they have all been sent on, some of their deepest questions get answered. But is the mission for them to save the Earth or just survive the impending end? You must read to find out.

I would give this book 3 out of 4. I liked the story for the most part. It was a little out of my normal wheelhouse, but still good. This was definitely a science fiction adventure book. I believe that a lot of what happens in this book could not happen in the real world.

There are a few things that I need to say about the book that really have nothing to do with the story, but think need to be mentioned. I noticed a few grammatical errors that, at least for me, took a bit of the flow of the story from me. I noticed missing quotation marks, misspelling, and lack of story breaking. The story needed to be broken up better in the writing. Within the same chapter the story jumps from character to character from paragraph to paragraph, even if they are not in the same place. This was more numerous in the beginning of the book. I also noticed some broken sentences, i.e. a sentence starting on one line, then just stopping and restarting at the beginning of the next paragraph. This made it seem like the author did not finish her thought, again taking away from the flow of the story. I know for some this might be minor, but I thought that these errors should have been caught before publishing, especially the missing quotations, misspelling, and sentence flow.
