This science fiction eBook starts off with the main character, Louise Patterson, dead and living in Hell. Louise Patterson’s journey focuses around her trying to figure out how she got in Hell and also how to survive in Hell. This book is different from most because it is has it all: bewilderment, massive descriptions of what most readers can only try to imagine, sarcastic and explicit humor, revelations, tears and horror.

What I really loved about this book is the fact that the author pulls you into a story that is told from a very different perspective. (Most books focus on what actions on Earth can land you a trip to Hell, but not living in Hell and navigating around.) Not only does she draw you in from the beginning, but I honestly was not able to put the book down. It has great depth with its descriptiveness, but it didn’t bore me nor go too far. The writing is tight, well thought out and very well put together.

This book can be seen as a religious “no no” because of its discussion of the afterlife. It is definitely a book that can cause controversy with some of the explicit content and viewpoints of biblical references. Religious groups may not be big fans of this writing. However Helen Downing explains herself, her words and some simple things in life that are important to remember, in the epilogue. Not necessarily saying that “all is forgiven”, but relaying the message that it is not an extremist viewpoint pushing opinions on anyone else. It is after all a “story”.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The only reason why the book wasn’t rated at 4 stars is because technically there were some issues. A PDF should be pretty clean cut. This document had issues with mismatched line spacing, paragraph formatting, punctuation errors and very few grammatical problems. Otherwise, this book would have been rated at the highest rating.

This is a great read nonetheless. While moving along through the book you may find that your own viewpoints are being pondered. No spoiler alert here, but you will find that the conclusion of the book is unpredictable and written very well. Hoping to see much much more from Helen Downing. Her writing style is one to be envied.

This seems like an interesting read, although I'm not a fan of books with religious controversies.
