Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories by K is a collection of twelve short stories featuring different perspectives on love. The tales vary wildly. There is teenage love and the love of a husband who is bored with his wife. One story takes the reader into the Underworld and another into the future where there are robots. There is a story of a man who cares deeply for his sister-in-law and even a story from a dog’s perspective. Though very different, all the stories are tied together by the idea of love as a revolutionary act.

The part of the book I liked most were the stories that made me laugh and were more realistic. “Calamity Jane” tells the story of Habib and Jay, who is dating a girl named Jane. Everyone thinks Jane is a terrible person, except for the two boys usually. I loved the banter between Habib and Jay. As someone who works with teens, I imagine their conversations were pretty accurate. Jay was obsessed with sex and could always steer the conversation that way. Their ideas on girls wearing tight yoga pants with words on the back were particularly amusing. “The Conversation” was my other favorite part of the book. It centered around a blind girl who lived alone but was smothered by her mother. Luckily, she secretly did many things with her neighbor, including throwing out a secret porn stash belonging to a deceased neighbor. It culminated in a young girl being confused about corn instead of porn. I love when stories make me laugh out loud.

My least favorite parts of this book were the stories set in the future. “Automatonomatopoeia” involved a man and his automaton, which is basically a robot. “The Hand” was also futuristic and involved an odd workplace where people had sex all the time. It was hard for me to get into the stories because they were so unbelievable to me. The beauty of a collection of short stories, though, is that a reader could skip over stories they aren’t interested in, so they don’t really detract from the enjoyment of the book overall.

This book would appeal to those who like short stories that revolve around love and those who like fantasy and futuristic elements. It is definitely meant for adults. I wouldn’t even want my teenager to read some of the stories. There is adult language, sex scenes, violence, and death.

I would rate Resistance, Revolution, and Other Love Stories 3 out of 4 stars. I can’t give it a 4 because there were some stories I just didn’t understand. I struggled to find the love story aspect within them. I wouldn’t give it any lower than a 3, though, because the stories I did enjoy I really, really liked. Also, I liked more stories than I disliked.

Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories was well-written and professionally edited. I personally enjoy short stories because if you don’t have time to read a long story, you can just read part of the book and come back to it days later. I highly recommend it to those who enjoy short story collections!

I love anthologies and this one seems interesting enough. The fact that it ranges from present to future setting interests me enough. Thank you for a review.

I wouldn't mind a couple of short stories. Some do it for a reader, while others fall down flat. Good job on the review 👌

I can just imagine how funny the story from the dog's perspective is. However, I'll pass on this one due to its sexual contents. Thanks for your review.

When I read your review, in my mind this book seem interesting. I was kind of person who liked imagination over reading the book. Like your review and I like to read this book.

The review of "Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories" provides a mixed perspective on the collection of short stories. While some stories were enjoyed for their humor and realism, others set in the future were less appealing. Overall, the book seems to cater to those who appreciate love-centered short stories with fantasy or futuristic elements. It's important to note that the book contains adult content. With a rating of 3 out of 4, the reviewer recommends the book, but acknowledges that not all stories may resonate equally with readers. Immersive experience, lost myself in the story.
