Alice is the first of 10 monthly short stories where he describes, with many erotic details, his quest in internet dating. The theme of the book is adult relationships (including sex) and online dating. The book is not long (35 pages) and it consists of two chapters.

Sam is a middle aged English man who lives South West of France and is running a small shop. He is divorced twice and since his French are not so good for intellectual conversation he is trying online dating to find a pair. His first encounter is Alice, a woman of same age who lives in England. Alice is also coming out of a twelve year relationship and is disappointed, she has lost trust in relationships and has convinced herself that she will remain alone for the rest of her life. She has tried online dating but after some disappointing dates she soon gave up.

The life of both of them changed when Sam, interested in Alice’s profile, sends an e-mail cleverly circumventing the rules of the dating service that require a subscription in order to get communication details. After that, begins a series of truthful email exchanges between two people who are in the same situation and looking for the same thing friendship, love and sex. The initial email exchange gave place to cybersex when both were at work (that gave Alice a few extra tips) and some skype calls. The first chapter ends somewhere here with an extract of Alice’s diary where she shares her views about Sam and their relationship.

The second chapter begins with the prospect of Alice traveling to France in order to spend a weekend together. This meeting can be also seen as a confirmation that the chemistry that exists between them in the e-mails, also exists when they meet. Some unexpected problems endanger their meeting. I'll leave it to the reader to discover what happens at the end.

To sum up the book is about internet dating and acquaintance between two middle-aged people who are in the same situation of loneliness and disappointment but also hope and search of another person with whom they could share their life. ?he author presents Alice, her life and her thoughts through her e-mails and an extract of her diary. He also narrates his own life, his experiences and his thoughts on Alice and their relationship. The book is well written with very little (one to two typos).

I found the book interesting although it’s not the type of books I usually read. I don't know what I liked. Maybe is the sexual acts that describes, but also this hope and eagerness for love and sharing. I am not sure; for what I am sure is that I’d like to read the rest of the series.

It is not something special I didn't like. It is that before the end of the first chapter I found myself getting tired of the continuous reading of email exchanges and chats. But it not lasted long

I don’t give this book 4 stars because it is not the book that would fascinate me. But it is a book that has interesting views about sexuality and relationships. I won't give 2 because I think it deserves more than that. So my rating is 3 out of 4 stars.
