The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd

Post by kell_ferguson »

An incredible story of two girls, one a slave the other her master.
Sarah a wealthy girl from a Southern American family is given Handful a slave not much younger than her as a birthday present.
Each chapter changes between Sarah and Handful who tell their story as they grow up together. Their lives are so different and there are so many rules around how they must treat each other yet the two girls cannot help but become friends.
Sarah has never been able to except having a slave nor anyone being forced to be a slave because of their race. Against her family, her expectations, her happiness and how society sees her, Sarah makes a stand for what she believes in and makes it her life's goal to begin the abolishing of black slavery.
