Review of Luna and the city of shadows
Luna, a fashion designer in a job where all her ideas are stolen, is desperate for love. Her work environment is toxic, and she has a strained relationship with her parents. When Luna meets Dan, she thinks she has finally found the man for her. He is loving and seems to be able to provide the stability she craves. However, doubt creeps in, along with issues from her past. Will Luna find her happy ending, or will it all fall apart again? Locate a copy of Luna and the City of Shadows by Roksolana Lebid to find out.
Luna's character growth drives the narrative forward. Seeing her grow throughout the book was my favorite part. Her relationship with Anna, her friend, was one of the only things working in her favor at the start of the novel. I appreciated how the two would support each other. I also thought it was touching that Luna became friends with Mrs. Lindley, an elderly woman living across from her. These healthy relationships stood in contrast to some of Luna's past relationships.
The issues with this book lie in the writing. There were more than ten errors throughout the book, which indicates that it was not thoroughly proofread. In addition, there were some clarity issues in the book. Oftentimes, when a new character would begin speaking to Luna, their name would not be given for a few pages. It made it difficult to follow the narrative, and I found myself rereading sections once I learned the identity of the character. I wish that Lebid would have included a few more dialogue tags to help alleviate some confusion.
I rate this book 2 out of 5 stars. While I enjoyed seeing Luna's growth throughout the book, I thought the technical issues were significant enough to warrant the lower score. If the book were to undergo additional proofreading, then I believe it would deserve a higher rating. This book is best suited for readers who enjoy novels that are driven by character growth.

Gee whiz, I am rooting for Luna. She deserves better. I hope Dan does not let her down. Luna's character growth and her friendships with Anna and an elderly neighbor have potential to keep a reader interested. I hope the author appreciates your feedback about the grammar errors and the lack of dialogue tags. These improvements could bring this book to a 5-star rating.Laney K wrote: ↑18 Oct 2024, 14:56 [Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Luna and the city of shadows" by Roksolana Lebid.]
