Comfort in the Wings by Jennifer Collins is a fictional story about Larissa, a woman grappling with the unimaginable grief of losing her children—her only family. Overwhelmed by pain, she takes a work trip, hoping it might help lift her out of depression. The journey begins with several hiccups, including flight delays and encounters with strangers at the airport. Yet magical things seem to unfold along the way. Through these unexpected events, Larissa confronts her emotional turmoil, gradually opens her heart, and starts to rediscover joy.

The story offers a meaningful guide for facing grief, encouraging small acts like walking in nature, finding signs from lost loved ones, or opening up to strangers. It also teaches the importance of friendship, support groups, and the community's kindness. It is these connections, whether with other people or something spiritual, that help us navigate life’s hardest moments.

Although I am not a mother and cannot truly grasp the pain of losing a child, Larissa’s journey still resonated with me. Watching her take each small step to reclaim her life reminded me of my own. I, too, had depressing moments and did not find meaning in life at some point. But eventually, we all need to take action to regain control. One important lesson I learned is that we often feel lost when we seek certainty. Sometimes, what we need to do is accept and embrace the unknown. This is a journey anyone can relate to, no matter the starting point.

The book reads like a fictional memoir of Larissa, giving readers a deep look into her thoughts and experiences. It serves as a self-help guide for those who have lost family members or are dealing with grief or depression in general. One thing I especially liked was the author’s use of imagery. For example, Larissa compares her emotional health to a “bank account,” with joyful moments as deposits and setbacks as withdrawals. Another powerful metaphor is water—symbolizing resilience through its ability to adapt and flow. These vivid images help break down complex emotions, making them easier to process.

I rate Comfort in the Wings five out of five stars. The story inspires me to continue with my own journey of overcoming negative emotions and reconnecting with life. The editing is impeccable; I did not find a single error or any negative things to say. This is a book I highly recommend.

I enjoyed reading this review, it is engaging and inspiring. I guess the book is as much interesting. I like the fact that the author, Jennifer Collins, talks about grief and the impact of grief as a fictional story (rather than a non-fictional). It makes us readers connect with Larissa and relate with her. Larissa is going through a lot of pain, but she eventually learns to live again through the simplest acts like walking in nature. Thank you for this beautiful review.
