Official Review: The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

Post by Tianarenee3 »

John Green's "The Fault in our Stars" or more commonly known as TFIOS has hit not only teens everywhere but literally anyone who holds compassion in their heart, hard. An eloquently written novel in dedication to a girl who fought for cancer like his beloved characters, Green embarks on a journey of love, sacrifice, and simply what is living a good life. It is heart wrenching and painful at times, but it humbles the reader and takes them to an entirely different plane bound to open the eyes of the naive. This novel hurts; it makes you laugh and cry, scream and smile, but through the whole thing, the reader is reminded that life is real.

Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters are two helpless teens in love, and apparently helpless teens in life and they both suffer from their own personal diseases and bodily misfuntions. This book regardless of what ignorant people will say, does not sugar coat their condition and sometimes can be hard to read. However I believe that this adds to the rawness and purity of the novel, something that Green does brilliantly.

Green's language has a way with words that pulls at the strings of ones undoing; his words haunt and touch all at te same time. It is beautiful, as simple as it may be.

TFIOS is not a book that will move oceans, catch stars, fight the bad guys; but it does have something that humans strive to achieve: acceptance. Green's words are an intricate weave of truths brought together by the simple nature of two characters that saw the world a little bit differently, and perhaps after reading it, you will too.
