Help: Trying to finish "The Way of Kings" by B. Sanderson

Post by Asherat by the Sea »

Am I missing something?
I've read the first 300 pages of Brandon Sanderson's "The Way of Kings" which came highly recommended through not just actual friends, but also through critical acclaim and so on and so forth. What am I missing?? I've meandered to a stop with this book and simply cannot seem to get interested in it. Has anyone loved this book? I did have high hopes for this cross-genre Sci-Fi/Historical/Adventure novel, but I must say, it has really fizzled for me.

Believe me, its not for lack of trying! I've dragged this book all over the place in hopes that stark boredom might get me to persevere and get involved in it--but it's simply not happening. I can think of only two books I've quit on in my lifetime---The horrible "Sacred Hearts" by Sarah Dunant, and "Sarum" by Edward Rutherford. Unless someone gives me some motivation (ie. "...keep at it, the good stuff's coming!") I think I'm going to give this book a high place (as in, out-of-reach) on the shelf.

Cheers for now,
~Asher

Hey there. I know this is years later but I felt the same way. I decided to get into this book and kept stopping several chapters in. I decided to give it a try on audible and accidently for the second book first. Fortunately Sanderson created these books so you can start on and off the books and still know what's going on. The second book was a lot easier to get into with less character building compared to the first book. I would highly recommend trying the books on audible and listen while doing other things. You'll find yourself loving it as the parts that seem boring will start to make more sense further into the books. I've actually gone back to re-listen to the first two books with book two being my favorite.
