Not my type of preferred literature, because I dislike circuses on principle and don't consider "freak-show" any kind of decent entertainment. Still, congratulations on BOTD!

Duke and Gary are not bad people but they are both trapped in their own voids AND although they come from different worlds they meet just when they need each other the most and that changes everything.🐞

Interesting book but I don't think it's my choice of genre because I don't do well with alcohol and drugs. Overall amazing review because I got to know the insight of the book

What I love about this book is that it gives as an outlook on the lives of other people. It shows us that there is so much more than what meets the eye. With just the title, people might think that it's just about people on the circus or something like that, but it's deeper than that. It's interesting!!

Robinson’s portrayal of his own descent from a charismatic high school star to a directionless, party-driven college graduate in The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid sets a poignant stage for his transformative encounter with Duke, highlighting the power of second chances.

This is an amazing review. I agree, from the sample available, I was able to experience the thrill and excitement that one would experience from the book. The editing seemed well. I can't wait to finished reading the free ebook I received. Congratulations on the botd!

I like character-driven stories. What some would call slow pacing, I call pleasant pacing. This review clearly mentioned what to expect from the book and whom it suits.
Thanks for the review.

"The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid" by Gary Robinson shows how addiction can mess up someone’s life, and how meeting the right person, like Duke can help turn things around which is why I enjoyed reading the book.

"This book feels like a deep dive into the lives of two very real people. It shows how everyone can go through dark phases—addiction, struggles, and all—but also how unexpected connections can change everything. A raw and honest look at life’s ups and downs."

From the review, this books covers the story of Duke and Gary. It sounds interesting how their life intermingled but I don't think it is a book I will be interested in finishing.

I liked this book because it felt real and showed how hard life can get with addiction. Although Duke and Gary come from different backgrounds, their stories connect in a meaningful way.

I am excited to know Gary Robinson did a great job with the character development, highlighting their weaknesses, which I suppose should help readers better connect to the story. I sure would like to read more about Gary and Duke. Their addiction to alcohol reflects our larger, collective human struggles. It's also great to know there are elements of humor in the character dialogue. However, I hope the nudity the reviewer commented on is not too disturbing.

Being addicted to what runs you down is dangerous. I think this book shows us that no matter who you are, addiction to alcohol can rob you of being your best. I like that there's humour and the characters are well built up.

I appreciate how you review captured the core of this book; raw, real and surprisingly humorous in all the darkness. I agree that the way the author unfolds the characters' struggles makes you root for them, especially Gary. This is a deep, empathetic story and your review perfectly captures that.
