[There is so much joy when we sport together. The friendship it builds, the joy it gives, are good enough to engage in them often. And your summary was just on target

Thank you for such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. I found it especially moving how the book uses fly fishing not just as a shared hobby but as a metaphor for the deeper emotional journeys the women go through. I’m intrigued by how each character has her own challenges—like Amanda navigating her husband’s deployment and Sophie’s search for love—and how their bond grows through these experiences. It’s rare to find a story that blends nature, sport, and emotional depth so seamlessly. I also appreciated your honest take on the catch and release practice and how the story reframes it as a meaningful metaphor. This definitely sounds like a book that celebrates the quiet strength of friendship and the beauty of shared moments in nature. I’m looking forward to reading it!

I really enjoyed reading this review because it gave me a new perspective on The Reel Sisters. I wasn’t expecting a book about fly fishing to be so emotional and character-driven. The idea of five women from different age groups and backgrounds bonding over a shared experience is inspiring. I especially liked how the reviewer described their journey from strangers to becoming like real sisters. The mention of each woman facing her own life struggles—like Amanda dealing with her husband’s deployment—makes the story feel very relatable and grounded in reality. The metaphor of "catch and release" turning into something deeper was also quite powerful. This review makes me want to read the book not just for the plot, but for the life lessons and emotional depth it seems to offer.

I enjoyed reading "The Reel Sisters". I never had an interest in fishing until I read this book. I especially loved the way the friends rescued Melody and warmly welcomed her to be a part of them.

Michelle Cummings's "The Reel Sisters" brings readers into the world of fly fishing as a Women. It features the story of five different women who bonded over the sport of fly fishing. Beyond the clear subject discussed are also lessons on the beauty of relationships, the gift of friendship and the opportunities in being open to potential friends.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review! I really enjoyed reading how The Reel Sisters is about so much more than just fly fishing—it’s inspiring to see how the story uses the outdoors as a backdrop for exploring deep friendships and personal challenges. I appreciate how you mentioned the vivid descriptions and the way each woman’s perspective is shared, making the reader feel like part of their journey. Your comments about the catch and release metaphor were especially interesting and made me curious to see how that theme develops in the book. This review definitely makes me want to read The Reel Sisters and experience the characters’ growth and connections for myself.

For me, the subject matter chosen by the author for this book is rather unappealing. I can't see anything peaceful in any kind of fishing or things even remotely related to it, no matter the genre, race or occupation, but I am sure with an opinion like this, I am in the minority))

"The Reel Sisters" by Michelle Cummings is a novel about fly fishing and a whole lot more. The novel is really about the comradery of close friends, their enjoyment of fly fishing and the getaway weekends at Rose’s cabin on a lake and near a river that Sophie and her friends stay at sharing stories about their children and their husbands. When Sophie met Thatcher, they dated for ten months, were engaged for another ten months and at the time of the story they had been married ten years with two children. The five ladies are great cooks and really look forward to making meals and spending time together. Some of the ladies are married to men in the military that are deployed to Afghanistan. Raising two children with her husband out of the country was tough but it made the time Sophie spent with Thatcher that much better when he came home. Sophie had started an executive coaching business, taught fifth grade and taught her friends how to fly fish and tie their own flies. Sophie learned to fly fish from Buck, a man with years of fishing experience. Readers will learn a lot about fishing including clothing to wear, waders when fishing in shallow water, rods, reels, lures and cleaning and cooking fish that they caught although they have caught some trophy size fish but they release them since trophies do not mean anything to them. The five women are very different and range in age from early twenties to post-retirement and have very diverse backgrounds. This story reminded me of the six friends I went up to lakes in northern Wisconsin to fish for a week several years in a row back when we were in our late teens. Our trips were planned for fishing, drinking beer, playing cards, playing golf and just having a great time. The six of us took a trip to Missouri when we were in our early 30s to fish, golf, drink beer, play cards and just enjoy our reunion since we had all been married since our early twenties. In this novel Sophie, Rose, Veronica, Amanda and Melody, also known as the Reel Sisters, had very enjoyable fishing trips together and it seemed like their bond got stronger every time they got together. The stories about how they met were amazing especially Melody who had been swept downstream naked and they rescued her and she is now a friend for life. The book will teach a beginner how to properly cast while fly fishing and it will show how close these friends with such different backgrounds have bonded. This is a wonderful book that the sample convinced me to put the book on my to-read list.
