"The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom

Post by Carolynemery33 »

Christian-Fiction books may not be for everybody, but this book called "Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom can really make you look at life differently. I'm not the biggest Christian in the world, but this book really spoke to me. It was the first book I ever read by Mitch Albom and I'll certainly never forget it.

This story is about a man named Eddie who feels like there is not much going for his life. He works in an amusement park and is stuck in the rut of his daily life. The kids love him at the park and he enjoys making them smile, but he still has this sadness about him. At first you aren't sure if it's just him being lonely, his work, or regret from his life. Either way, you pick up instantly that this man is hurting.

In the beginning of the book, promise not giving anything away since you've probably gathered from the title what is about to happen, Eddie is saving a child from her death and next thing you know, he is in his own afterlife. While in his afterlife, he is met by 5 different people. Each person has played a big part in his life, whether he knew them or even if they were a stranger. Somehow, they are linked and he learns this through a series of flash backs.

Eddie begins to realize what his life meant and why he shouldn't be saddened or feel regret about anything. You are taken on this whirlwind with Eddie through most of all 83 years of his life. This really makes you think about your own life and how you need to realize even the slightest things you do in your daily life can play a big part in either your life or even a stranger's life.

Mitch Albom really does a great job with this book. Being the first book I ever read from him, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was so pleased. I would rate this book a 4 out of 4. It was well written, brought tears to my eyes and most of all, really made me re-evaluate my own life in a way I never thought I would. Even if you aren't the biggest Christian like me, you will still appreciate this book and love it. I would highly recommend this book.
